Mrs. Kahler's 8th Grade Science Class

Saturday, March 17, 2007

Hello to all! My name is Molly Oudsema and I'm the intern teacher for Mrs. Kahler. I will be updating the Blog every Thursday. There will be a brief description of the exciting Chemistry activity for each day. If there are any questions and/or concerns, please feel free to stop by or call me at 337-0670 ext. 236. I look forward to meeting you!

Next, we would like to start off by thanking all the wonderful parents and students who took the time to attend conferences! It was such a pleasure to meet all of you and have a chance to discuss your child's success.

With all that being said, let's take a look at our exciting upcoming week.

Monday, March 19th

Science

Today we will start off the week by attacking our third set of vocabulary words! We will be creating our Word Boxes that will be DUE ON THURSDAY. Let's make sure that we use these to study for our vocabulary QUIZ ON THURSDAY.

Tuesday, March 20th

Science

What does mixing substances, goggles, a butane lighter, beakers, wires, batteries, steel wool, charts and safety all have in common? You guessed it! Another day exploring chemistry in the lab. Students will be completing the experiments and descriptions found in Lesson 2 (pages 6-12 in their Student Pages).

Wednesday, March 21st

Science

Can you tell me the history and other facts about Hydrogen? Perhaps, but if you are unsure today will refresh your memory. We will be doing a fun hands-on learning activity that uses technology to explore the perodic table!

Reminders:

* Word Box * - DUE TOMORROW

* Quiz * - TOMORROW

Thursday, March 22nd

Science

Today we begin by handing in our Word Boxes and taking our vocabulary quiz. Then we will begin our exploration on weight change. The students will observe physical changes in matter and make predictions about weight changes involved. But the fun does not stop there! Then they will share and discuss their predictions with their group and then with the entire class! Just another fun day of chemistry.

Reminder:

* HALF DAY TOMORROW *

Friday, March 23rd

Science

HALF DAY!
Today we will be reviewing all the vocabulary words we've had up until this point. Let the games begin!
